Shaw Park Botanical Gardens sits on a hilltop above Ocho Rios, reached by a steep drive up from the main road. At 25 acres, it offers a well-maintained collection of tropical plants, including palms, bromeliads, orchids, and bamboo groves, with views down over the bay and the town below. A small waterfall tumbles through the grounds, and the paths are largely flat and easy to walk.
It's a quieter alternative to the falls for those who prefer their nature without organised group activities. Come in the morning when the light through the tree canopy is best and the heat hasn't built up. The gardens are rarely crowded even when the cruise ships have unloaded, which makes them a good refuge. There's a small café near the entrance.
