Akumal's beaches are short stretches of white sand backed by palms and small villas. The main strip on Akumal Bay is calm, shallow, and ideal for families; Half Moon Bay just north has rockier patches but quieter water. Yal-Ku Lagoon, at the far north, is for snorkelling rather than sunbathing. Public access points are marked along the village road — the beach itself is federal land and free to enter, though some hotels make it feel otherwise.
