Akumal village is small enough to walk end to end in twenty minutes. The main road runs parallel to the beach, and most restaurants, dive shops, and beach access points are within easy walking distance of each other.
For the cenotes and inland sights — Dos Ojos, Aktun Chen, Cobá — a rental car makes things significantly easier. Taxis wait at the highway junction, and colectivos (shared minibuses) run north to Playa del Carmen and south to Tulum along Highway 307, stopping at the Akumal turnoff. Bikes can be rented from a couple of spots in the village and are useful for reaching Half Moon Bay and Yal-Ku Lagoon at the northern end.
