Museo Casa de Hidalgo

The single-storey house where Miguel Hidalgo lived as parish priest of Dolores from 1804 until the morning he raised his army is now a museum and a national monument. The building has been left close to its original state — cool tiled rooms around a small patio, the kitchen, the bedroom, the study where Hidalgo wrote — with display cases adding letters, prints, and personal possessions associated with the priest and the insurgency he led.

Labels are in Spanish only. The collection is modest but the place itself does the work: standing in the rooms where the Grito was planned, you understand why this small town carries the weight it does in the national imagination. Open Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays; admission is a few pesos.
