Dolores Hidalgo sits between San Miguel de Allende (about 40 minutes south) and Guanajuato (about an hour south-west) on a paved highway that is in good condition. The closest airports are Bajío International (BJX), about 90 minutes away, and Querétaro International (QRO), about two hours. Most visitors arrive on a day trip from San Miguel.
Frequent buses connect Dolores Hidalgo with San Miguel, Guanajuato, and León. The bus station is on the south-eastern edge of town, about a 15-minute walk from the Jardín or a short taxi ride. Driving in central Mexico has improved enormously over the last twenty years; the toll roads through Guanajuato state are safe and fast.
