Getting There

Veracruz is served by General Heriberto Jara International Airport (IATA: VER), which handles domestic connections from Mexico City, Cancún, Monterrey, and a handful of US cities. The airport is about 8km south of the city centre; taxis and shared shuttles run to the centre. Most international travellers connect through Mexico City.

The easiest overland option is the ADO bus from Mexico City's TAPO terminal — a comfortable five-hour journey with several daily departures. ADO also runs from Puebla (about 3 hours), Oaxaca (6 hours), and Mérida (8 hours). The bus terminal in Veracruz is on Díaz Mirón Boulevard, about 4km southwest of the city centre; taxis to the Plaza de Armas are cheap and plentiful.
