Villahermosa is hot and humid year-round — this is one of the wettest states in Mexico, and the heat is tropical. The dry season runs roughly from March to May, when rainfall is lighter and temperatures peak. The rainy season (June to October) brings almost daily afternoon downpours and, in bad years, serious flooding. The 2007 flood, which submerged most of the state, is still vivid in local memory.
November to February is the most comfortable time to visit: temperatures are still warm but the worst of the humidity eases and rain is less frequent. Christmas and New Year bring family tourism from other parts of Mexico.
The best time to visit Parque-Museo La Venta is early morning, before the heat builds. By 11am it can be genuinely punishing.
