Rio Lagartos exists almost entirely for one reason: the flamingos. The Ría Lagartos Biosphere Reserve is one of the largest flamingo breeding colonies in the Americas, and boat tours into the lagoon system are the defining experience here. Beyond the flamingos, the reserve offers crocodile-spotting, exceptional birding across more than 300 species, and a visit to Las Coloradas — pink salt pans that have become popular in their own right.
