From La Palma, day trips by boat can reach Emberá-Wounaan villages along the Tuira and Sambú rivers, where you can see traditional crafts, food, and dance. Pirre Station in the national park — reached by canoe and a muddy hike from Rancho Frío — offers the best birding in the park, including a chance of seeing the harpy eagle. Capurgana and Sapzurro, two small villages on the Colombian side of the coast, are reachable by boat and have excellent beaches and snorkelling; crossing is straightforward if you have your passport. These trips require a guide from La Palma.
