Eating Out

Ashford Avenue has no shortage of restaurants, ranging from tourist-facing hotel dining rooms to a few genuinely good spots that have earned their reputations. The neighborhood's proximity to Santurce also puts some of Puerto Rico's best cooking within a short walk. Local dishes worth seeking out include mofongo (mashed plantains), lechón (roast pork), and the various preparations of rice and beans that form the backbone of Puerto Rican cooking. For the most serious food in the area, you need to walk or take a short taxi ride into Santurce.
