Port of Spain has no metro system. Getting around relies on taxis, maxi taxis (shared route minibuses), and private cars. Traffic in the city, especially during rush hours (7–9am and 4–7pm), can be extremely congested.
Maxi taxis run fixed routes between the city centre and various suburbs and are the cheapest way to move around — fares are low and they run frequently during the day. Standard taxis (route taxis) also run fixed routes and pick up and drop off passengers along the way; agree on the fare before getting in.
The Queen's Park Savannah and the downtown area are both walkable, and the distance between them is about 20–25 minutes on foot. Beyond those two areas, walking is less practical due to heat, traffic, and a shortage of pavements in some districts. For Woodbrook (restaurants and nightlife) and the Savannah, walking is fine in daylight.
