Legion Field

Legion Field, opened in 1927, is Birmingham's historic outdoor stadium and has hosted Iron Bowl games between Alabama and Auburn, college football bowl games, and major concerts. The stadium seats 71,000 and has a lived-in, slightly decaying grandeur. It is no longer a primary venue for major games but remains open for events.

The stadium is on the west side of downtown, about two miles from the Civil Rights District. Its main interest for visitors is as a piece of Birmingham sporting history — the stadium where Bo Jackson, Bear Bryant, and Pat Sullivan all played in high-profile games. Worth knowing about if you're interested in Southern college football history, not worth a trip on its own.
