Eating Out

Anchorage punches well above its size when it comes to restaurants — the city has the only serious dining in Alaska, and a few of the kitchens would do well in Seattle or Portland. Seafood is the obvious draw: wild king salmon and Pacific halibut in summer, scallops and king crab from the Bering Sea, and kelp from Cook Inlet on the more adventurous menus. Reindeer sausage is the local breakfast staple. The microbrewing scene is strong, with several pub-restaurants serving good food alongside their own beer.

Glacier BrewHouse is the most reliable downtown dinner — wood-fired seafood, house IPA, dependable service. Simon and Seafort's is where locals take guests for a serious dinner with a Cook Inlet view. Snow City Cafe does the best breakfast in town and has the queue to prove it. South of downtown, Moose's Tooth Pub and Pizzeria is Anchorage's busiest restaurant — pizza and house-brewed beer.
