Hermit Trail is the Grand Canyon's rougher, quieter counterpoint to Bright Angel and South Kaibab. It drops from Hermits Rest into Hermit Canyon, passing Waldron Basin and junctions for Dripping Springs before continuing into much more committing country. The route is steep, exposed and less maintained than the corridor trails, which is precisely why experienced hikers value it.
Treat this as a serious desert hike, not a scenic stroll from the rim. For a day walk, many visitors turn around before Dripping Springs or use the early miles for a taste of backcountry canyon terrain. Going far down the trail means carrying enough water, starting early, and being honest about the climb back out; the National Park Service warns that the Hermit Trail is for experienced Grand Canyon hikers.
