Sloan Park (Cubs Spring Training)

Sloan Park is the spring training home of the Chicago Cubs, a 15,000-seat stadium in West Mesa that opens each February for Cactus League play. Spring training baseball is one of Arizona's great pleasures: the games are relaxed, the tickets are affordable compared to the regular season, and you can wander close to the field in ways that are impossible at a big-league park.

The Cubs draw a famously devoted fan base, and Sloan Park has become a social occasion as much as a sporting event. The concession menu leans into Chicago associations — Italian beef sandwiches, deep-dish pizza — with Arizona concessions running alongside. Afternoon games in February and early March can be ideal: warm and sunny but rarely scorching.

The Cactus League runs from late February through late March, with games most days. Check MLB.com for the Cubs' schedule and buy early, especially for weekend games. If the Cubs are away, consider catching one of the many other Cactus League teams playing in the greater Phoenix area.

A story
Chicago Cubs fans make a pilgrimage to Sloan Park every February and March with an enthusiasm that has made Mesa's spring training one of the most attended in the Cactus League. The Cubs sell out most home games; buy tickets online months before your trip. The seating bowl is intimate enough that you can watch batting practice from the outfield grass.
