The Walmart corporate headquarters campus is not open to visitors, but the context of being in Bentonville and seeing the company's physical presence in the town is part of understanding what the place is. The modest original headquarters building and the scale of the broader campus visible from the Razorback Greenway tell you something about how the company has operated. The new campus under development will significantly expand the company's footprint in the downtown area.
Walmart Corporate Campus
A story
Walmart's world headquarters occupies a sprawling campus on the south side of Bentonville, and the contrast between the global scale of the enterprise and the modesty of the corporate campus has been remarked upon for decades. The original headquarters building is low-slung and functional, reflecting Sam Walton's philosophy that corporate overhead was money that should go into lower prices. A massive new headquarters campus is currently under development that will consolidate scattered offices into a single location. The company employs around 12,000 people locally.
