Eureka Springs and North Arkansas Railway

The Eureka Springs and North Arkansas Railway is a short tourist railway running between the downtown depot and a stop in the surrounding hills, with passengers riding in restored open-platform coaches behind a vintage steam locomotive. The route passes through some of the prettiest Ozark scenery around Eureka Springs — wooded hillsides, trestle bridges, and small creek valleys — and on the way back gives a view of the hill town from below that you can't get from the street.

The railway runs regular passenger excursions from April through October, with dinner train and mystery train events on selected weekends. The 1906 depot at the bottom of the historic district is a handsome wood-framed building and worth seeing even if you don't ride the train.

A story
The Eureka Springs and North Arkansas Railway originally opened in 1883 to haul timber from the Ozark forests. By the 1930s the timber was gone and the line was nearly bankrupt. Today it runs the same route as a tourist railway — but the original 1906 depot, the vintage steam locomotives, and the narrow mountain grades make the journey feel less like a theme park and more like a genuine piece of Ozark history.
