Clinton Presidential Center

The William J. Clinton Presidential Center sits on the south bank of the Arkansas River in the River Market District and anchors the redevelopment of Little Rock's waterfront. The building itself is striking — a long glass rectangle cantilevered over the river on stilts, designed by Polshek Partnership Architects to evoke a bridge.

The permanent exhibition is one of the more honest and well-designed presidential library displays in the country. It covers the Clinton years chronologically, with reproductions of the Oval Office and Cabinet Room, and includes exhibits on the economy, the Lewinsky investigation, and the failed healthcare reforms without airbrushing the low points. The grounds include a park with good river views and the restored Choctaw Station.

Open daily. Admission charged. 1200 President Clinton Ave.

A story
The building is designed to look like a bridge extending over the Arkansas River — a deliberate metaphor for the "bridge to the 21st century" that defined Clinton's 1996 campaign. Whether or not you find that compelling, the archive holds 80 million pages of documents, the largest presidential library collection in history.
