Eating Out

Berkeley eats well. The Gourmet Ghetto on Shattuck Avenue north of campus is the most famous dining district — Chez Panisse, the Cheese Board Collective, and Peet's Coffee (the original, at 2124 Vine Street) are all here. The stretch of Telegraph Avenue and the side streets around campus has good cheap options from Ethiopian to Thai to Mexican. Downtown Berkeley has several good independent restaurants, and the neighbourhood around Solano Avenue in the Albany hills to the north has a lower-key but excellent local dining scene.
