Carlsbad State Beach

Carlsbad's main stretch of Pacific coastline runs for several miles between the lagoon inlets, and the state beach section near the village is the most accessible and least crowded of the Southern California beaches in this part of the coast. The seawall path above the beach connects the village restaurants and shops to the sand, making it easy to walk from lunch directly to the water.

The surf here is generally mid-range — not the powerful beach breaks of Oceanside to the north, not the calm waters of the lagoons, but consistent enough for beginner to intermediate surfers. The beach widens considerably at low tide, and the rocky reef sections at either end attract snorkelers. At sunset, the view back toward the bluffs and the Carlsbad village streetscape is genuinely pretty.
