Things to Do

Carlsbad's two flagship attractions draw visitors from across Southern California: LEGOLAND California, one of the original LEGOLAND parks outside Denmark, and the Carlsbad Flower Fields, where 50 acres of giant ranunculus bloom in vivid colour each spring (roughly March through May). Beyond those, the city has good beaches, the sheltered waters of Batiquitos Lagoon for kayaking and birding, and access to excellent coastal surf at Carlsbad State Beach.

The Museum of Making Music near LEGOLAND is a genuine surprise for music lovers — hands-on exhibits trace a century of American popular music through the instruments that shaped it. East of town, Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park preserves a hacienda estate built by the Hollywood actor and conservationist, complete with wandering peacocks and original adobe buildings.
