Catalina Express runs ferries from San Pedro, Long Beach, and Dana Point to Avalon. The crossing takes about an hour and runs year-round, with more frequent departures in summer. Book ahead on weekends and holidays -- ferries sell out. IEX Helicopters also flies from Long Beach to Avalon in about fifteen minutes if you want to splurge.
