Tapia Adobe Site

The site of the 1839 adobe built by Tiburcio Tapia, the Mexican land-grant holder of Rancho Cucamonga, on a low hill overlooking the valley. The original house was the headquarters of one of the largest cattle and vineyard operations in early California — Tapia is credited with planting the first commercial vineyard in the Cucamonga Valley, in 1839. The adobe burned down in 1862 and only foundations remain, marked by a low stone monument and an interpretive plaque.

The site sits next to the John Rains House and is best combined with a visit there. A short interpretive walk explains the ranching and winemaking history. Free, open during daylight hours.
