When to Go

Rancho Cucamonga has a classic Inland Empire climate: hot, dry summers and mild winters with occasional rain. The mountains directly north block some coastal cooling, so summer temperatures regularly exceed 100°F (38°C) and can feel punishing mid-afternoon. Spring (March–May) and autumn (October–November) are the most comfortable seasons — warm, clear days with cooler evenings and the San Gabriel Mountains at their most photogenic when snow still dusts the peaks above 6,000 feet.

Winter is brief and mild enough for comfortable sightseeing, with daytime temperatures often reaching 65°F (18°C). The vines and old citrus groves are dormant but the historic sites are quieter. Summer is peak season for Quakes baseball at LoanMart Field — night games are the way to go, as the heat eases quickly after sundown. The Route 66 pilgrimage season runs April through October, when the vintage-car community is most active.

The Santa Ana winds blow hot and dry from the northeast in autumn (October–December) and occasionally in spring, making those days uncomfortable and raising wildfire risk in the canyons. Check conditions before hiking if winds are forecast.
