Historic Jail

Tucked into a corner of Old Town, the so-called Historic Jail is a small thick-walled adobe with a barred window and a heavy door. It looks the part of a frontier holding cell, but it never held a prisoner — it was built as part of an early restoration to add Wild West flavour to the streetscape.

It takes two minutes to look at and makes a good story to tell. Free, no signage to speak of; you find it by wandering the side streets off Main.

A story
Despite the iron-barred window and the prominent sign, the building was never a working jail. It was a private joke turned permanent fixture — the kind of mock-Western touch that defines Old Town.
