South Coast Winery has consistently been named California Winery of the Year by the State Fair, an unlikely outcome for a relatively young operation in an unfashionable region. The wines are competent across the board; the gold medals tend to come for the syrah, viognier, and sparkling wines.
The estate is the largest of the Temecula resort wineries — there is a 132-room hotel, a spa, and a restaurant in addition to the tasting room. Even if you are not staying, the grounds are good for a walk.
