Old Town Temecula

Old Town Temecula is the original 1880s railway settlement, six blocks of Front Street and Main Street rebuilt as a Western-themed shopping and dining district. The wooden boardwalks, false-front buildings, and hitching posts are heavily restored, but the bones are real — several of the buildings, including the Welty Building and the old hotel, date from the 1890s.

By day it is antique shops, candy stores, and brewpubs; on summer evenings there are free concerts in the Town Square and food trucks. The Saturday morning farmers' market on Sixth Street is one of the best in inland Southern California. Park once and walk: traffic on Front Street is heavy on weekends.

A story
Old Town was a sleepy backwater until the 1990s, when the city began aggressively restoring its Western storefronts and waiving permits for boardwalks. It is now a curated streetscape — the wooden facades are mostly authentic, the boardwalk planks underneath are barely twenty years old.
