By car is how most visitors arrive. Olympic Valley is on Highway 89 in Placer County, about 42 miles (68 km) southwest of Reno and 100 miles (160 km) northeast of Sacramento. From San Francisco, allow roughly 3.5 to 4 hours. From Reno–Tahoe International Airport, it is under an hour. Chains or snow tires are often required on mountain roads in winter — carry them even if forecasts look clear.
Reno–Tahoe International Airport (RNO) is the closest airport, with frequent connections to West Coast cities and seasonal direct flights from further afield. The resort runs a shuttle service from Reno during ski season; several private transfer companies also cover the route.
Sacramento International Airport (SMF) is the alternative for flights from Southern California and major hubs. The drive via I-80 and Highway 89 takes about 2 hours.
By bus, the Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit (TART) operates routes connecting Olympic Valley to Tahoe City and Truckee. From Truckee, Amtrak's California Zephyr connects west to Sacramento and east to Reno. This combination is slower but workable if you are not bringing gear.
Parking at the resort can fill quickly on peak weekends. Arrive early or take the TART shuttle from Tahoe City to avoid it.
