Community Observatory is a public stargazing site near Placerville with 17-inch and 14-inch telescopes. It opens for weekend viewing in summer and winter, plus selected special events, with volunteers helping visitors understand what is visible in the night sky.
Check the schedule before going, since clouds and weather can cancel sessions. The roof opens directly to the sky and there is no heated indoor viewing area, so dress as if you will be outside for the whole visit.
