A Redondo institution since 1953, occupying a prime stall on the International Boardwalk at the south end of the pier. The format is simple: walk in, choose your dinner from live tanks of Dungeness crab, Maine lobster, oysters, sea urchin and rock cod, pay by the pound, and they steam, crack and serve it on plastic trays at picnic tables on the boardwalk outside.
The atmosphere is informal — beer in cans, picnic-table service, paper napkins — and the crowd is heavily local Korean-American and Latino families on weekends. The seafood is straightforwardly fresh and the prices are reasonable by California seafood-restaurant standards. Sourdough bread, melted butter, lemon and beer are about all you need to accompany.
Lines run long at peak weekend lunch — arrive by 11:30 or after 2:00 to avoid the worst of it.
