Redondo Beach is one of the three Beach Cities on the southern sweep of Santa Monica Bay, sandwiched between Hermosa Beach to the north and Torrance to the south. The town revolves around its pier and harbour — the horseshoe-shaped King Harbor is lined with seafood restaurants, shops and sport-fishing boats. The International Boardwalk on the pier has a strong Korean and Japanese fish-market influence.
The beach itself is wide and relatively uncrowded compared to nearby Santa Monica or Venice. The Esplanade path runs along the bluffs above the shore, offering views across the bay to the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The Strand bike path starts at the pier and runs 22 miles north to Pacific Palisades. Redondo is a good base for a quieter Los Angeles beach experience without the crowds and hype further north. The walkable Riviera Village at the south end is the closest thing to a town centre.
