California's Great America is the largest theme park in the San Francisco Bay Area, a 112-acre park off Highway 101 in north Santa Clara. It has been a fixture of the South Bay since 1976, passing through various corporate ownerships but holding its ground as the go-to thrill option for the region. The roller coasters include Flight Deck (an inverted coaster), Gold Striker (a wooden coaster), and Railblazer (a single-rail coaster that is genuinely terrifying). There is also a water park section open in summer.
Season passes are popular with Bay Area families and make the economics reasonable if you plan to come more than once. Single-day tickets are expensive at the gate — buy online in advance. The park is busiest on summer weekends; weekdays in June and September are significantly quieter. Located at 4701 Great America Parkway at the junction of Highways 101 and 237.
