Ocean Park

Santa Monica's southernmost neighbourhood, bordering Venice, with a more laid-back character

Ocean Park occupies Santa Monica's southern end, running from Pico Boulevard to the Venice border. The neighbourhood has a looser, slightly more bohemian character than downtown — lower buildings, more street art, a higher ratio of locals to tourists. Main Street is the commercial spine, with a good mix of galleries, independent restaurants, vintage shops, and cafes that feel removed from the resort circuit to the north.

The streets between Main Street and the beach are quieter and more residential. The transition to Venice at the southern boundary is gradual — Ocean Park was historically part of a larger beach community that included Venice before the areas incorporated separately. If you want the beach with fewer crowds, this end of Santa Monica State Beach is reliably quieter than the stretch near the pier.
