Redding is on Interstate 5, about 160 miles north of Sacramento and 240 miles south of the Oregon border. By car from San Francisco, allow about 3.5 hours; from Portland, about 4.5 hours. Amtrak's Coast Starlight train stops at Redding on its Los Angeles–Seattle route, though service is infrequent and often runs late.
