Redding's main appeal is the landscape around it — Shasta Lake, Whiskeytown, the Sacramento River trail system, and the proximity to Lassen Volcanic National Park and Mount Shasta. The city itself offers the Sundial Bridge and Turtle Bay as its centrepieces, plus a small but genuine arts scene centred on the Cascade Theatre. Most visitors come through in summer; the shoulder seasons are considerably more comfortable given Redding's extreme heat.
