Dover Motor Speedway is one of the most prestigious tracks on the NASCAR circuit, a concrete one-mile oval with some of the steepest banking in the sport. The speedway hosts two major NASCAR race weekends per year — typically in May and October — that transform the otherwise quiet city into a temporary city of racing fans. On race weekends, Dover becomes the most densely populated place in Delaware.
The monster-guarded entrance and the distinctive round shape of the track make it recognizable even from the air. Even outside race weekends, the speedway offers tours and the track itself is visible from the surrounding area. The infield holds facilities for the camping fans who arrive days before each race. Dover has been a NASCAR track since 1969 and the surface has never been repaved — the same rough concrete has been there from the beginning.
