John Dickinson Plantation preserves the childhood home and estate of one of the American Revolution's important political writers. The site tells the story of Dickinson himself, but also of the enslaved, indentured, and free people whose labor sustained the plantation economy.
It is one of Dover's strongest historical stops because it moves beyond a single founder biography. The house, outbuildings, and landscape give visitors a more grounded sense of colonial Delaware and the contradictions built into early American politics.
