A few hundred yards inland from the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, this small marine-life rehabilitation centre is one of the best-value family attractions on this stretch of coast. It nurses injured sea turtles back to health — there is usually a dozen or so loggerheads and green turtles in big circular tanks visible to visitors — and operates an active sea-bird hospital with herons, pelicans, and gulls in outdoor aviaries.
The aquarium rooms hold local Atlantic species: nurse sharks, stingrays, lookdown fish, seahorses. A 5,000-gallon artificial reef tank is the centrepiece. Admission is only a few dollars, and the centre is small enough to see in an hour or two — pair it easily with the lighthouse and a seafood lunch at the marina.
