Fort Pierce

Historic Treasure Coast city with a working waterfront, beaches, marine museums, and old Florida edges.

North America > United States > Florida > Fort Pierce

Fort Pierce is an old east-coast Florida city on the Indian River Lagoon, north of the Palm Beaches and south of Vero Beach. It is part beach town, part working port, part historic downtown, and still a little rough around the edges in a way that much of coastal Florida has priced out.

The city faces two waters. Downtown sits on the lagoon, with a marina, restaurants, and restored early-20th-century buildings. Across the causeway, Hutchinson Island gives Fort Pierce its Atlantic beaches, state parks, and the Navy SEAL Museum.

Fort Pierce is a good stop if you want the Treasure Coast without the polish of resort towns further south. Come for the waterfront, Fort Pierce Inlet State Park, the small but strong marine museums, and a downtown that still belongs to locals as much as visitors.
