The Everglades are less than an hour's drive from downtown and the Florida Keys start just south of the city. Fort Lauderdale is a quick 30-minute drive up I-95. For a longer day out, the drive down US-1 through the Keys is one of the most scenic routes in the country — Key Largo is about 90 minutes from Miami, and you can snorkel at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park before heading back.
