Miami's food scene is shaped by its immigrant communities. Cuban cuisine dominates — you will find ventanitas (walk-up coffee windows) and cafeterias serving croquetas, ropa vieja, and pressed Cuban sandwiches all over the city. But there is also Haitian food in Little Haiti, Peruvian ceviche in Brickell, Colombian arepas in Doral, and an upscale dining scene that draws on all of it. Stone crab season (October to May) is a local obsession, and Joe's Stone Crab on South Beach has been the temple for that since 1913.
