Kona Skatepark, opened in 1977, is one of the oldest continuously operating skateparks in the United States. Originally built during the first wave of American skate park construction, it survived the industry bust of the early 1980s — which closed most of its contemporaries — and has been running ever since. The park covers several acres and includes bowls, pools, a snake run, half-pipes, and street sections, with the original concrete layout supplemented by more recent additions.
Kona is a working skate park, not a museum, and it is used daily by serious skaters ranging from local teenagers to visiting professionals. Sessions are open to the public; protective gear (helmet and pads) is required for anyone under 18. The park has hosted numerous competitions and is recognised in the skateboarding community as a historic venue. Located in Mandarin, on the southwest side of Jacksonville.
