The best time to visit Jacksonville is October through April, when temperatures are mild (daytime highs typically 18–24°C), humidity is low, and the weather is reliably pleasant. Spring — March and April — is particularly good: the azaleas bloom throughout Riverside-Avondale, the beaches are warm but uncrowded, and outdoor dining is comfortable.
Summer (June–September) is genuinely hot and humid, with afternoon temperatures regularly above 35°C and frequent afternoon thunderstorms. The beaches get crowded in July and August, and the heat makes outdoor sightseeing exhausting by midday. Hurricane season runs June through November, with August and September posing the most risk. Winter is mild by national standards — frosts are rare and temperatures seldom fall below 10°C — but some days in December and January can be grey and cool.
The Players Championship, played at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, happens in mid-March and is one of the most prestigious golf events in the US. The Florida-Georgia football game, played at EverBank Stadium every October, draws enormous crowds from both states and books out hotels across the city months in advance.
