The St. Johns Riverwalk runs along both banks of the river through downtown, covering about 4.5 kilometres in total. The Northbank walk (from the sports stadium to the Main Street Bridge area) and the Southbank walk (from San Marco north to the Friendship Fountain) can be connected via the water taxi that crosses the river at several points.
The walk is best in the evening, when the city lights reflect on the water and the temperature drops. The Friendship Fountain, on the Southbank near the Main Street Bridge, is one of the largest self-contained fountain systems in the world and is illuminated at night. On weekends the Northbank near EverBank Stadium fills with fans before Jaguars games, which gives the area an energy it lacks the rest of the time. The water taxi runs frequently and costs a few dollars — it is a better way to cross the river than driving.
