Underbelly is one of Jacksonville's most distinctive dive bars, a long-running spot in Riverside with cheap drinks, local music, and a clientele that spans the full range of Jacksonville's alternative social scene. The bar is in a basement space with deliberately rough-and-ready decor and a schedule that includes local bands, DJ nights, and the occasional comedy or spoken word event.
It is not fancy and does not try to be. But as a place to hear local music, meet people who actually live in Jacksonville rather than just visit it, and spend an evening without spending much money, it serves its purpose extremely well. Most shows charge a small cover at the door.
