Frank Brown Park and Conservation Park

Conservation Park, on the western side of Panama City Beach about 30 minutes from downtown, protects 2,900 acres of pine flatwoods and cypress wetlands with 12 marked walking and cycling trails ranging from half a mile to over 11 miles. The boardwalks across the wetland sections are flat and shaded, with chances to see alligators, river otters, and the occasional black bear.

This is the only easy access to wild Florida Panhandle landscape near Panama City — the kind of slash-pine forest that once covered the whole region. Go in early morning to avoid both heat and mosquitoes, which can be vicious in the wetter months. There is no entry fee and the trailhead has a small visitor centre, restrooms, and bike rental.
