Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church is one of the oldest church buildings in Florida and the most architecturally distinctive structure in Apalachicola — a small, white, Greek Revival temple with a low pediment and Doric columns. It was constructed in 1837 from pre-cut white pine shipped from New York, an early example of prefabrication.

The interior is plain and elegant: original pews, a hand-cranked pipe organ, and slave galleries on the upper level that have been preserved as a record of the period. The church is still active and usually open to visitors during weekday hours. Donations are welcome but not required.

A story
The entire church was prefabricated in New York in 1837, then shipped down the coast in numbered sections and assembled on the corner of Avenue D and 6th Street. It has stood there ever since, including through several hurricanes that flattened more recent buildings around it.
