Flagler Drive Waterfront

Five-mile waterfront promenade along the Intracoastal Waterway, the city's spine

Flagler Drive runs the length of West Palm Beach along the western edge of the Intracoastal Waterway, with a continuous walking and cycling path on the water side. The views are across to the mansions of Palm Beach and (further north) the smaller homes of Riviera Beach. Royal palms line most of the route; on weekend mornings the path is full of runners, cyclists, and stroller-pushing parents.

The most useful stretch for visitors runs from the Society of the Four Arts bridge in the south to about Banyan Boulevard in the centre — roughly two miles, easily walked. Several small fishing piers project into the lagoon; the South Cove Natural Area mid-route has boardwalks through restored mangrove and is good for birdwatching.
