West Palm Beach

Treasure Coast city opposite Palm Beach, with a walkable waterfront district and the Norton Museum of Art.

West Palm Beach is the largest city on Florida's Treasure Coast, sitting across the Intracoastal Waterway from its more famous neighbour, Palm Beach. It has developed its own identity in recent years — the Clematis Street waterfront district and Rosemary Square (formerly CityPlace) have made the downtown lively and walkable.

The Norton Museum of Art is one of the best in South Florida, and the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens are a quiet escape. The waterfront along Flagler Drive is pleasant for walking, with views across to Palm Beach. The Kravis Center is South Florida's main performing-arts venue, and in May the SunFest music festival takes over the waterfront for five days.

West Palm Beach is also a convenient base for nature outings: Manatee Lagoon just to the north fills with West Indian manatees in winter, Mounts Botanical Garden is fifteen minutes west, and Lion Country Safari — the first drive-through safari park in the United States — is half an hour out toward the Everglades. The beaches of Singer Island and Jupiter sit ten to twenty minutes north.
