Mounts Botanical Garden is the largest public garden in Palm Beach County, a 20-acre collection of more than 2,000 species of plants laid out in 28 themed gardens. The Tropical Fruit Grove is its most visited section — a heavy-cropping orchard of mangoes, sapodillas, longans, and starfruits — and the Rare Plant House has a small but excellent collection of orchids, bromeliads, and unusual gingers.
The garden is run as a botanical institution rather than a tourist attraction: low admission, modest signage, real horticulture. It is at its best from October to May; summer is humid and the rains can be intense. About fifteen minutes by car from downtown West Palm Beach.
